✨Majestic Mahakal: timeless lord of a timeless city
After Varanasi’s Vishwanath temple and Uttarakhand’s Kedarnath shrine, Mahakal temple is the third ‘jyotirlinga’ (Lord Shiva's sacred abodes, twelve in total) temple to undergo extensive renovations.
Countless Shiva lingams dot the sacred geography of India ranging from the gigantic Mount Kailash to those as small as grains of sand. Why, every pebble in the sacred town of Kashi is considered to be a lingam.
Then there are lingams molded by the hands of humans, the rishis, or the gods, and those that formed themselves, Swayambhu. There are those that last for eternity and those made for the moment, kneaded of wheat dough or made of mud while bathing at the riverbank.
